Welcome to our Development Studies home page
The economic development of nations and their subsequent rise out of poverty is perhaps the most challenging issue of the 21st Century. Reflecting current concerns, Edward Elgar Publishing has built up a prominent and innovative Development Studies list spanning a range of social science disciplines. We seek to publish the very best development-based research from around the world, emphasizing our commitment to development issues and maintaining the high calibre of our list. Our monograph program includes cutting-edge publications on development studies, development economics, poverty, international finance, trade, technology, impact assessment, health, agriculture and sustainability. Our original reference series comprises comprehensive Handbooks and Companions providing scholars and students with invaluable tools for research and teaching and our Research Collections gather the most important articles on critical development issues. Our textbook list offers a unique resource for classroom adoption. We also publish a range of innovative series including the Global Development Network Series, The CRC Series on Competition, Regulation and Development and the Evaluating Sustainable Development series and have cultivated strong publishing relations with a number of external organizations such as the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, the Institute of Developing Economies - JETRO and The World Bank, to name a few. We are proud to count among our authors and editors such luminaries as Sylvia Chant, Paul Collier, Amitava K. Dutt, Frank Ellis and A.P. Thirlwall. We regularly host book displays at a large number of conferences, including the Development Studies Association, the Global Development Network and the International Association of Impact Assessment as well as a range of smaller, more specialist conferences pertinent to our publishing program.
